Should I use a QR code on my business card?
- What is a QR Code? QR is short for Quick Response. A QR code is a machine-readable code consisting of an array of black and white squares, typically used for storing URLs or other information for reading by the camera on a smartphone. QR codes are now mostly seen in stores, magazines or ads. Once you scan the code, it may give you details about that business, brand or product. Or it may also show you a URL which you can click to see a trailer for a movie, a link to their social media accounts, or it may give you a discount coupon which you can use in the store where you saw the code.
- QR codes can be created using QR code generators and you can opt to put your social networks, contact details, website and many more.
- Now, some people are even using QR Code Business Cards. Is this a good thing or a bad thing? Let's first start with the main purpose of a business card. As we all know, business cards are mainly used to introduce yourself, a brand or a company. It mostly has the contact details of the contact person. As much as you want to put everything in the card to provide potential clients with complete information, it is not possible because a business card would only have limited space. That is where the QR Code becomes useful. Or not?
- Remember that QR codes are machine-readable. Some people may not even understand what that is when they see it on a business card, or they might not know how to scan the code. However, if you are in the tech industry, and probably most of your clients or customers are familiar with how QR codes work, then putting a QR code on your card may be beneficial for you. It might even give you some brownie points to your client because of the modern approach.
Deciding if you will put a QR code on your business card would depend mainly on two factors:
- Target Market - This is important to determine. If your target market is for an older crowd, then this option may not be good for you because the majority of your clients won't even understand what that is.
- The Line of Business - If your business is in the tech or IT industry, then this could work. Mainly because your clients would probably understand the technology behind QR codes.
- Also, when handing out business cards, you would want to keep some details or information about your business or brand. Why? So that when a client contacts you to inquire, then you would have the chance to personally explain the details and provide the information needed. This is still much better than them reading everything on the internet. You will still have the chance to answer their questions or make any clarifications if they have issues or concerns.
- QR codes are useful but it also depends on how you will put it in your business card.
