Spot UV printing is a technique in which the glossy UV layer is applied to a certain part of the business card, so that it comes out of the paper with a shiny finish in the immediate contrasting direction with the rest of the cardboard, colour and texture. Areas that are not covered by UV layer will have a velvet or silk lamination applied to it. Add clear Spot UV to highlight specific areas of your business card designs such as the logo, company name, contact number or call action on your business card.

How to set up
Please refer to the following instructions for preparing and uploading the artwork for your spot uv business cards.
- Add 0.04inches(1mm) bleed.
- Keep 0.16inches(4mm) safety margin.
- Use CMYK as the color mode.
- Resolution of at least 300 dpi.
- Convert fonts to outlines.
- Make sure the ink coverage isn't higher than 300%.
- Save your files in uneditable, print-ready file formats.
- Use the right values for full color black.
- Lines should be at least 0.25 pt.
- Check your artwork on overprint.
- Keep 0.16inches(4mm) safety margin from the fold.
How To Set Up Your Artwork Document For Spot UV Printing
At least three artboards required. They are CMYK printing artboard, Spot UV artboard(Vector based) and all combined artbord. If the document is a bitmap based file like a JPEG, it is not acceptable. We recommend using Adobe Illustrator to work with your artwork.
Go to the first artbord of your document, and copy any objects that you want to have highlighted with a Spot UV finish. Next, paste these elements on your new Spot UV artboard, in exactly the same position.
For all elements added to the Spot UV layer, make them K 100% with your saved Spot UV colour. Your final artwork will look pretty strange when you view all layers together!
Your proof will be with three pages: one showing the artwork artboard, one showing only the Spot UV artbord, and one with both layers overlaid so that you can check the Spot UV is correctly aligned with the original artwork.
